Formation [lateinisch »Gestaltung«, »(An-)Ordnung«] die, -/-en, Biologie:
Vegetationseinheit mit einheitlicher Physiognomie und Ökologie ohne Rücksicht auf die Artenzusammensetzung (z. B. Halbwüste). Ähnliche Formationen werden als Formationsgruppe zusammengefasst (z. B. Wüste).
